The SONUSIGNUM project – whose name expressly discloses the unicity of the purposes it comes from – arises from the collaboration between visual artist Giuliano Guatta and guitarist Massimo Menotti. The two artists, sharing an interest in the cyclic repetition of gesture and sound, foresee the possibility of shaping performances through a gradual process of extempore creation. Starting from an original nucleus, the interaction between the sound and the sign leads to the construction of a “form” by layering. The site-specific approach of the project focuses on the dual function of the environment, both as space hosting the performance and as interactive medium, which may vary according to the context. The sign and the sound act in a continuous forming and transforming of an image in the time flow, a sort of gestural and sound fluxus distributed in the space lapse of the action.
